Ubisoft, France - Platformer – 2008 - Proprietary Engine

True to its origins, the Nintendo DS version of Rayman Raving Rabbids (Ubisoft Casablanca) is a platformer with runner elements. I was part of a team of 5 level designers and worked on three levels for the runner part, from layout to implementation.

I learned level design on the job, using the Rational Level Design System tool. I first designed my level on paper and then ported it to Illustrator, using a library of shapes and objects and adjusting the flow, difficulty and learning curve, following the RLD system in Excel. I then built my levels in 3DS Max and implemented them in the engine, where I set up the gameplay elements needed to complete the level and made adjustments.

What I did

  • Level design for the runner-type part of the game.
  • Design, documentation, balancing difficulty and pacing.
  • Level creation (paper > illustrator > 3DS Max > engine) and implementation, testing.
  • Bug fixing
